Take Standardized Tests

As an international student, you would require a study permit or visa to study in Canada. Here are the general requirements for obtaining a student visa (study permit) in Canada

Acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI)

Before you can apply to a Canadian school, college, or any other learning institution, ensure that it falls under the registered DLIs. The Canadian government allows only accredited government institutions to accept international students.

Proof of Identity

Have a valid passport or travel document. Make sure that your passport will be valid while you are in Canada.

Letter of Acceptance

Provide an original letter of acceptance for the designated learning institution that has granted you admission.

Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC)

You must transfer $20,635 to a Canadian bank account which will towards your living expenses for 1 year, and the same will be disbursed on a monthly basis to cover your monthly living expenses.

Payment of Tuition Fees

You should pay your tuition fees for the first year or the whole duration of the course and then apply for a study permit.

Proof of English/French Proficiency

You are required to show competency in a foreign language like IELTS be it SDS or Non-SDS visa route

Post Study Work Opportunities in Canada

Canada offers post-graduation work permit (PGWP) opportunities for international students who have completed eligible programs at designated learning institutions in Canada.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Completion of a full-time program at a designated learning institution.
  • Program duration must be at least eight months.
  • Graduated from a public post-secondary institution, a private post-secondary institution, or a private secondary or post-secondary institution in Quebec.
Duration of the PGWP
  • The length of the PGWP depends on the length of the program completed.
  • Programs with a duration of at least eight months but less than two years may result in a PGWP valid for the length of the program.
  • Programs with a duration of two years or more may result in a PGWP valid for up to three years.
